Review:Dean Koontz is one of those writers that allows me to pick up a book - any book - and love it. This is my first foray into one of his older novels, and I have to tell you that I loved it. Written in 1976 (my edition is 1983), it barely seems dated at all...only a few references to things that couldn't also describe today. I love that.

The Annendale family has already been ripped apart by death, and in their continuous quest to heal, they're making their yearly trip to an idyllic backwoods town in New England, to camp for most of the summer. This year, however, the little welcoming town isn't quite so. Thanks to several diabolical minds who have chosen this area as their testing ground for things unimaginable in nature - and yet so possible in today's paranoid world - the Annendale's summer vacation is about to turn their tattered family upside down. In classic Koontz style, though, a powerful will wins out and good will prevail in the end...good, that is, that is still tempered by the twisted world in which we live.
