Back Cover / Inside Flap: | "Martin Stillwater has a vivid imagination. It charms his loving wife, delights his two little daughters, and gives him all the inspiration he needs to write his highly successful mystery novels. But maybe Martin's imagination is a bit too vivid....One rainy afternoon, a terrifying incident makes him question his grip on reality. A stranger breaks into his house, accusing Martin of stealing his wife, his children - and his life. Claiming to be the real Martin Stillwater, the intruder threatens to take what is rightfully his. The police think he's a figment of Martin's imagination. But Martin and his family have no choice but to believe the stranger's threat. And run for their lives.

Review: | This Dean Koontz novel seemed a bit different than many of his other works. While it is the same kind of setup with a male/female pair who are pitted against evil forces, the premise of this book is pretty far outside of what he typically tackles. This novel has a dark, dark edge...and I loved that! Through the character of Martin Stillwater, we experience just what human nature makes possible when situations dictate. There is also a pretty big departure at the end of the book from the typically mixed bag "happy" ending. If you're a fan of Koontz but are ready for a new twist from his imaginative mind, this will make a great addition to your collection. |
